The purpose of the Oklahoma Forestry Services’ Rural Fire Defense Program is to help to insure life safety for civilians and firefighters, and to effect property conservation. A side benefit is that when the above goals are realized, community fire protection insurance ratings are improved and home and business owners’ property insurance premiums go down…
Other activities carried out by the Rural Fire Defense Coordinator include: start new fire departments where feasible, distributing Department of Defense property which is adaptable to fire service use, coordinate training of firefighters, aid fire departments in conducting public fire education activities, administer federal and state grant programs for fire departments, advise communities on the fire insurance rating betterment, start county fire associations, and serve as a one-stop answer department for any and all matters relating to the fire service.
